About Dog Boy Designs

Buddy Dawg's Seal of ApprovalFrom the Mouths of Babes...

Having spent the majority of my professional career in the performing arts and then commercial graphic arts, I was instantly captivated that fateful Halloween night 1996 when I saw a brilliant orange glow flickering from the shadowed depths of my neighbor's basement. Thus began my introduction to the seductive allure of borosilicate flameworking and the next several years would find me helping out in different glass production shops but eventually leaving my brief foray into the lampworking world to focus my energies on graphic design for an internet technology startup.

Nearly a decade later at the 2005 Marble Show in Portland I saw the incredible works of contemporary art marble artists and the amazingly expanded new palettes of borosilicate colors. “...his gleeful giggle of “Dog Boy!” was good enough for Buddy & I.”I knew then and there that I had to pursue my passion for glass and work with these exciting new materials. It was glaringly apparent that a new renaissance in lampworking was bubbling up from the underground and I became determined to get back on the torch, learn everything I could, try everything I could think of, and arm myself with an arsenal of techniques to become conversant in this newly emerging medium.

Dog Boy at the Grand Canyon 2004Although I've never been sure who rescued who, fate was clearly intervening on my behalf when Buddy Dawg & I met in the woods near Hagg Lake in July of 2003 and we've been constant companions ever since. While visiting Los Angeles that summer a friend's young son had trouble remembering my name & Buddy's name, but when he saw us his face always brightened with smiling laughter and his gleeful giggle of “Dog Boy!” was good enough for Buddy & I.

Since the last several websites I was involved with had names that wound up being a tangled mouthful of misspellings, and I was born in the Year of the Dog and am allergic to cats, this simple easily remembered name also seemed fated, and thus Dog Boy Designs.com was born.

Buddy & I thank you for visiting and hope you enjoy the site!

Sincerely,
